Project

Texas A&M University, Walton Hall

Walton Hall was built in 1931 and after World War II, the dorm served as married-student housing, according to Texas Aggies Go To War by Henry Dethloff. Enrollment more than tripled after WWII and more than half were veterans. Today, it will house approximately 310 students in double and single rooms. Walton Hall is one of two all-male, non-corps dorms on campus and is named after Thomas Otto Walton, A&M president for 18 years, the longest administration at A&M to date. Walton Hall is a Ramp style residence hall located on the northside of campus that has 162 rooms spread out on four floors and 11 separate ramps.

MLN’s Special Projects was awarded as the prime contractor the Texas A&M’s Walton HVAC Renovation project that is to be complete in the summer of 2023. The scope-of-work on this mechanical retrofit project included demolition of the existing window unit system, installation of new riser piping in each of the ramps to support a new VRF system for the dorm rooms, piping insulation, installation of a new RTU, installation of new roof hatch, installation of UV protection on windows, electrical service upgrades, new lighting, new building management system, relocation of fire protection system, and other related improvements. This project had a 75-day start to completion construction schedule.

MLN’s Construction Operations team led by Bob Brohman and Matt Janneck, Jamie Ulloa serving as our piping superintendent, with subcontract support from Gliden Construction, Britt Rice Electric, Trane VRF and Controls, and Siemens Building Technologies will complete this compressed schedule construction event.
