Project
Harris County LBJ Hospital, Central Plant Expansion
MLN’s Special Projects Group successfully completed a large complex central plant modernization project for Harris Health at LBJ General Hospital. The variable primary conversion incorporated three new 750 Trane centrifugal chillers with an existing 500-ton chiller, replaced seven primary/secondary chilled water pumps with four variable speed primary pumps, and replacement of three condenser water pumps. Plant modernization included replacement of central plant pneumatic valves with DDC pressure independent control valves and a new DDC control system with central plant optimization. Throughout construction full facility operation was maintained with temporary installation of two air-cooled chillers and pumps.
MLN served as the prime contractor for this project, self-performing HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection, while managing the electrical, structural, and general trades in replacing outdated equipment and converting to a variable primary chilled water system that was designed by Wylie Consulting Engineers.
