MLN uses mechanical-piping systems for HVAC and plumbing on fast-track hospital project
According to the American Hospital Association, Chicago, more than 35 million people are admitted to U.S. hospitals each year. More than 118 million people are treated in hospital emergency rooms and 481 million outpatients are cared for each year.
The aging baby-boomer population is expected to keep existing hospitals busy and, with increasing life expectancy, hospital expansion projects are expected to keep pace with a growing demand.
One such expansion project is Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, Sugar Land, TX, which embarked on a $300-million expansion to its facility, more than tripling the number of beds and doubling operating space.
To beat the tight construction schedule, mechanical contractor MLN Company, Houston, used mechanical piping systems on the HVAC and plumbing systems throughout the hospital. They also relied on mechancial joint manufacturer Victaulic, Easton, PA, and its Construction Piping Services (CPS) division to provide management and coordination, as well as assist in including mechanical joining products in project drawings and reducing material handling on site through its bag-and-tag services.
